Sinhala-teaching courses for N-E public servants

(Srilankamirror) – The Ministry of National Languages is holding 10-day courses to teach Sinhala language to all Tamil public servants in the north and the east.

The first teaching programme began on June 11 in Vavuniya, attended by nearly 100 public servants in the district, said head of the National Language Education and Training Institute Prasad R. Herath.

In Kilinochchi, the training began on June 12 and Mullaitivu will have a similar course from June 23.

One hundred public servants have already undergone the training in Jaffna and those in Mannar will begin their course within the next few weeks.

Mr. Herath said there was enthusiastic participation in these Sinhala language training courses.

Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara said the measure was taken as per a recommendation in the LLRC report.
