Samsung Galaxy SIII launched in Colombo
(Srilankamirror) - Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone – Samsung Galaxy S III was launched in Sri Lanka yesterday (June 20).
The event was attended by Managing Director , Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd, Sri Lanka Branch office – Mr. H.K. Chang, the Vice-President, Sales and Marketing – Mr. H.C Rew, CEO of John Keells Office Automation – Mr. Janoda Thoradeniya, IT Sector Head of John Keells -Mr. Sujiva Dewaraja and General Manager of Mobile Broadband & Postpaid Business, Dialog Axiata – Mr Navin Pieris attended the launch.
Speaking at the launch, Managing Director, Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd, Sri Lanka Branch office – Mr. H.K. Chang said, “The Galaxy SIII is inspired by nature and human capabilities. It is effortlessly smart and intuitively simple by design. It is a fascinating example of how design and technology can be combined with intelligence and imagination to create innovative new products. The strong adoption of Smartphones by the Sri Lankan market has encouraged us to sustain the excitement in the marketplace by launching flagship, iconic devices like the Galaxy SII, Galaxy Note and today, the Samsung Galaxy SIII.”
The smartphone was unveiled by Mr. H.K. Chang, Mr. H.C Rew and Mr. Sujiva Dewaraja.
The phone’s most innovative feature is built-in face-tracking and voice control – allowing, Samsung claims, for a more ‘natural’ control system.
Other innovations include what Samsung claims is a ‘more intelligent’ lock system, that keeps the screen ‘awake’ when the phone’s camera senses eyes watching it, rather than turning it off.
The voice control system is called S Voice – and allows access to weather forecasts, web searches and scheduling, similar to iPhone’s Siri system.
Saying ‘I want to take a picture’ launches the camera application – and the feature works in eight languages.
Other features on the SIII include an 8 megapixel camera on the rear, and a 1.9 megapixel front camera for video calls.
The Galaxy SIII, which has a height of 136mm, a width of 70mm and a depth of 8.5mm has a 4.8 HD Super AMOLED display.
Running on 1.4 Ghz quad-core processor, it has Up to 32gb (+64gb with card) and runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
Available in Pebble blue and Marble white, the phone is priced at Rs. 115,000 . Optional accessories available for the Galaxy SIII includes : Flip cover, Slim case, Desktop Dock, HDTV Adaptor, Capacitive pen and Allshare cast dongle.
The Galaxy SIII will be available to Dialog customers with an attractive price offer of 2GB per month for six months.
To ensure the authenticity of the products, every box containing a Galaxy SIII will have a number of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.
Islandwide distribution of the Galaxy SIII will be handled by John Keells Office Automation (Pvt) Ltd.
Samsung, which recently overtook Nokia to become the world’s best-selling mobile phone maker, is the market leader of the local smartphone market, enjoying a market share of 40%.
