Presidency seriously undermines parliament

(Srilankamirror) – The executive presidency has seriously undermined parliament, which is being used as a tool by the executive, alleges the JVP.

Speaking at a party meeting in Chilaw, JVP politburo member K.D. Lalkantha said the prime minister in the past had implemented what the parliament had approved.

But, now parliament approves what the executive president wants, he pointed out.

The president tells his MPs to attend sittings and raise their hands in approval, a task for which parliament has confined its role, he added.
