Parents preparing for school protest attacked

(Srilankamirror) – Two persons, including a child, were injured last night (June 20) in an attack on a group of parents who were preparing to hold a protest to demand the appointment of a principal to Siridhamma Vidyalaya in Labuduwa in Galle.

The attackers also damaged a house and a three wheeler.

The owner of the damaged home said thugs who had arrived in two cabs had carried out the attack.

There is suspicion that police is behind the attack, said people of the area, as a person claiming to be the OIC of Akmeemana police had previously threatened them not to hold the protest.

Also, despite being informed about the attack last night itself, police were yet to visit the scene of the incident.

Parents have decided to go ahead with their demonstration this afternoon, as no replacement has been made to principal of the school Premasiri Epa, who had been removed.
