(Srilankamirror) – Higher education minister S.B. Dissanayake says the closure of rural schools is a sign of development.
He was speaking at a school equipment distribution in Udunuwara.
The minister said rural schools were being closed due to more rural children being recruited by urban schools which have better facilities.
He added that 2,000 out of the 9,000 rural school did not recruit a single student for grade one this year.
