33 pc of Colombo eateries’ foods unhygienic

(Srilankamirror) – Municipal authorities say 33 per cent of the food being sold in Colombo eateries is unhygienic and unfit for consumption.

Chief medical officer of the CMC Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam said this has been revealed in laboratory tests on food samples obtained from all these places.

However, a lack of adequate laws has prevented the errant food outlet owners from being taken to court, he said.

The CMC previously graded and issued certificates for all eating places in the city.
