No difference in US and SL stances says JVP

Srilankamirror – The JVP says there is no difference in the contents of the resolution presented by the US on the Sri Lankan government to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva and the stance expressed by Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe in Geneva.

JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath said the government has adhered to the calls by the international community.

He noted that the US has called for the implementation of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) recommendations while the government has informed the UNHRC that it would implement the recommendations.

He added that it is the government’s failures that have made way for the international community to dictate terms to Sri Lanka.
According to Herath, even three years after the end of the war, the government has failed to restore democracy and commence a proper reconciliation process.

“The government after agreeing to follow the calls by the international community is instigating people to protest against the international community,” he said.
